An AI Homework Helper That Teaches Instead of Handing Over Answers

Every parent who has handed a child a phone to "help with homework" knows the worry. The child gets the answer, copies it down, and learns nothing. The tool that was meant to help has quietly done the work. It sticks to what it can see rather than inventing questions, and it won't read out a visible answer key. For younger children especially, taking a photo is far easier than typing out a maths problem.

It talks to each age the right way

A five-year-old and a Primary 6 pupil need different help, so Ade adjusts. For the youngest learners it's gentler and shorter, and phrased so a parent reading over a shoulder can follow along. For older primary pupils it works through problems in more depth. The right mode is chosen automatically based on the child, not left to the child to pick.

One deliberate boundary: Ade is for nursery and primary pupils, not secondary students. It's a learning-to-learn tool for younger children, and the design keeps it there.

Parents can see, and there are sensible limits

Two things make this safe for a school to offer. Parents can see the conversations, and for the youngest children those chats are always visible to parents by design, not something that can be hidden. And there are daily limits, so a child can't sit there firing off endless questions. The app even shows how many asks are left before a child starts, so it's clear rather than a surprise. If a reply ever looks wrong, a child can flag it, and staff can review it.

It follows the lesson, not the internet

When a homework chat is tied to an assignment, Ade is given the matching topic and objectives from the school's own scheme of work, so the help lines up with what the class is actually learning rather than some generic version from the wider internet.

Why a school would offer this

A homework helper that hands over answers is worse than nothing.
