The school run is a stretch of the day where the school is responsible for children it can't see. Buses leave, children board, and until they arrive nobody quite knows where anyone is. When a parent calls to ask whether their daughter got on the bus, the honest answer in most schools is "we think so." That uncertainty is exactly what school transport management is meant to remove.

Start with the shape of your operation. Record your vehicles with their plate, capacity and driver, lay out each route as an ordered list of stops with a rough time for each, and assign students to a route and stop. Record who actually boarded
The most valuable thing transport tracking gives you is a boarding record. As students get on and off, each one is recorded through the driver's app for the trip. That builds a trail for every trip: who boarded, who got off, and who was expected but never showed. If a child is missing, you know at the stop, not at home time.
Keep an eye on the run from the office
With a tracker on the vehicle, its position feeds back to the school and the system works out which stops it's near along the route. This is an operations tool for the transport office and administrators, so staff can tell whether a run is on schedule instead of guessing from the timetable. It stays on the school side. The bus's exact position isn't shown to parents, and that's deliberate: broadcasting where a bus carrying children is at any moment is a safety risk, not a feature.

Transport is a place where a small amount of structure buys a lot of safety and calm. A clear route plan, a boarding record for every trip, and an office-side view of whether the run is on schedule turn the most invisible part of the school day into something you can actually account for. When a parent asks whether their child made the bus, "yes, boarded at 7:12 at their stop" is a very different answer from "we think so."
